The baby had to be admitted to a nearby hospital. According to reports, the baby is safe and healthy now.

Kerala: Couple Behind Bars For Abandoning 2-day-old Child

Kochi, June 3: A couple was arrested for abandoning their two-day-old baby girl outside St George Forane Church in Kochi’s Edappally area of Kerala. They were detained on Saturday by the Elamakkara police in Thrissur’s Wadakkancherry district after, being given captured in a CCTV footage outside the church.

In the footage, the couple, along with another child, is seen walking into the church around 8.15 pm on Friday; the baby was wrapped in an orange sheet. Later, the man could be seen kissing his baby before placing her on the ground outside the church.

The baby had to be admitted to a nearby hospital. According to reports, the baby is safe and healthy now.

The father of the child informed the police that the couple abandoned their two-day-old daughter, in the fear that they would be criticised socially for giving birth to a fourth child.  The police have levied various charges against the couple under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Juvenile Justice Act.
