New Delhi, Aug 18: As Kerala struggles to get on with its daily life amid the flood situation in the state which has until now claimed at least 324 lives, people from all across the country have come forward to help these people in distress. Among the ones who have offered help, one is the husband of the Kerala nurse who gave up her life to save patients of Nipah Virus earlier in the state today.
As per a report by TOI, husband of late Kerala nurse, Lini Puthussery, who died after catching the Nipah virus, donated his first salary to Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMRDF). Sajeesh, who had recently joined as a lower divisional clerk met Kerala Minister for Labour and Excise, TP Ramakrishnan and gave him his contribution. After this news reached far and wide on the social media, people applauded the man for his kind deed.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in isolated places on Saturday, that is today. Heavy rains are battering the state as the southwest monsoon advances through the country. The state received a cumulative rainfall of 2,306.88 mm which was an excess of 41.12 per cent. Idduki district remained the most-affected and recorded an excess of 90 per cent rainfall.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has rescued more than 4,000 people while the Navy has rescued almost 400 people. More than three lakh people have been displaced so far. Since August 8, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said at least 3,14,391 persons have been lodged in 2,094 relief camps across Kerala. After a review meeting with the state officials, Vijayan said, “The worst affected districts include Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kochi earlier today to conduct an aerial survey of the worst-hit districts of the rain-battered state. However, the aerial survey has been put off due to the inclement weather. A list of helpline numbers has been released for the benefit of the people.

Reportedly, the President of the United Arab Emirates Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has also instructed officials to set up a national emergency committee to help flood-hit areas of Kerala.
