Kollam, July 24: A stepmother allegedly branded her seven-year-old child with a hot spatula for wetting bed, stated police in Kerala’s Kollam on Tuesday. After going to school, the girl narrated the incident, that took place a week ago, to her teachers. The teachers came to know about the girl’s ordeal after questioning her discomfort in class. A school teacher reportedly said that the student eventually showed the burn marks inflicted upon her in stomach, thighs and private parts. The school authorities took immediate efforts to notify the issue to Childline. Later the NGO contacted the police who arrested the woman and the father of the child, a lorry driver. The stepmother has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and under the Juvenile Justice Act, stated police sources.
