New Delhi, Oct 28: Kerala Women’s Commission chairperson MC Josephine has directed Superintendent of Police of Kottayam district to inquire and submit a report about the present condition of Hadiya alias Akhila Ashokan in the ongoing love-jihad case.
The order came a day after it was reported that Hadiya’s life was under threat and she was being tortured in her house. The commission reportedly told the SP that a police officer no less than DSP rank should be given the charge of the inquiry. Earlier on Thursday, a video was surfaced where Hadiya was heard saying,”Get me out of here. Today or tomorrow, I am going to die.”
“I am sure about this. My father is getting angry, I can make out. He pushes me, stamps at me,” Hadiya had claimed in the video which was reportedly recorded in August by activist Rahul Eashwar.
The woman, a Hindu, had converted to Islam and later married 27-year-old Muslim man Shafin Jahan. It was alleged that the woman was recruited by Islamic State’s mission in Syria and Jahan was only a stooge. Ashokan K M, the father of the woman, had alleged that there was a “well-oiled systematic mechanism” for conversion and Islamic radicalisation.
On the other hand, Hadiya’s husband requested Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to intervene. In his petition, Jahan mentioned that Hadiya is going through severe human rights violation.
