New Delhi: Accused Jalandhar Bishop in the Kerala nun rape case, Franco Mulakkal, on Tuesday alleged that the rape allegation against him by a Kerala nun was a conspiracy against the church. “I feel there are people who are against the church, they’re using these sisters. This is a conspiracy and several people are taking advantage of the situation, they are putting sisters at the forefront,” Franco Mulakkal, accused of allegedly raping a nun, said. Speaking of the interrogation in the rape case, he said that there were many contradictions in the nun’s statement. “Police questioned me for 9 hrs. They took her (the victim nun) statement too and there were contradictions. They (police) are studying it as to who’s speaking the truth,” he said, adding, “I’ve heard they’re (nuns) protesting. Earlier in the day, the nuns, who have been protesting for last four days seeking arrested of the accused Bishop Mulakkal, alleged that Mother General Sr. Regina was informed of the rape by the Jalandhar Bishop but she wants to support the accused fearing that her position will be taken away.
