According to the press release issued by Kerala Water Authority (KWA) on Thursday, the water supply will be disrupted in several parts of the city due to ongoing work on the Smart City project on September 24 from 10 am to 12 am at night.

The Smart City project involves the installation of new pipelines and the connection of old branch lines in order to improve the water supply system.

This disruption will affect areas like- Vazhuthacaud, Udarasirmani Road, Palottukonam, CSM Nagar, Sishu Vihar Lane, Cotton Hill, Edapazhanji, K Anirudhan Road, Irakkam Road, Mettukada, Valiyashala and Thycaud.

Issues Faced by local residents

According to TOI reports, many residents of the city complaints of facing water supply disruption in the areas like Malayinkeezhu Junction, Palottuvila, Idavailakam, Panavilakam, Kuriyode, Aruvippara and several parts of Nemom due to unknown reason. A resident complained “PWD took an estimate to cut the road here for maintenance works. They assure that they speed up work, however, we are struggling as there is no water even for cooking and for other basic needs.”

While the Chief engineer of KWA, Narayanan Manboothiri, promised to clear the issues faced by the local residents. He said,” We don’t want to cause inconvenience to the public as we are working on war- footing to clear the issues. The issue has been solved at almost all places. Public can raise complaints at the water authority office.”

Earlier in this month, the residents across 45 wards of Thiruvananthapuram faced severe water shortage due to essential repairing of the pipeline due to which the KWA cut off water supply across the city. After which, Municipal authorities promised to restore the water supply by September 8, but repair efforts faced unforeseen delays due to which the restoration work was delayed for four consecutive days. Many public and private establishments were severely impacted by the shortage.
