Thrivanthapuram, Feb 13: A Youth Congress leader was hacked to death last night in Kerala’s Kannur district. Two other Youth Congress workers were injured in the attack. A group of men allegedly first threw a country-made bomb, and then attacked the man with sharp weapons.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Shuhaib. He was rushed to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way. Police suspect supporters from the ruling CPI(M) behind the attack, reported NDTV. The Congress also blamed the CPI(M) for the murder and called for a day-long ‘hartal’ in the district. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
Kannur district has been the centre of political killings. In October last year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a march to protest against what it said the killing of several BJP-RSS activists in the state ever since the CPI-M government came to power in 2016.
