Lucknow, June 16: With almost one year left for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections the media keeps asking Keshav Prasad Maurya whether he will be the Chief Ministerial candidate. The same question has been asked to BJP party president Amit Shah who keeps giving the same answer, that the BJP has not decided its CM candidate for the biggest state battle. After BJP’s victory in Assam, speculations has started to surface around. In last few days Smriti Irani, Varun Gandhi, Rajnath Singh, Yogi Adityanath, Ram Shankar Katheria and even former CM Kalyan’s Singh’s name has been surfaced as CM candidates. It could be a game changer for BJP if their state unit president Keshav Prasad Maurya is projected as a Chief Ministerial candidate. On the other side BJP officials said that all these names are being projected by supporters of leaders and this has nothing to do with the party’s decision. Maurya, an MP from Phulpur was elevated by the BJP to appease the OBC voters in the state. (ALSO READ: No ‘Achhe Din’ ahead for Prashant Kishor: Come UP & Punjab polls, Congress will sink along with the poll strategist) Also Read - BJP MP Kaushal Kishore's Son Shot By Bike-Borne Assailants In Lucknow

In Delhi, there are whispers within the corridors of BJP’s headquarters and RSS Delhi headquarters in Jhandewalan, that Maurya would be a competent face for the upcoming elections. The BJP’s core committee will name Home Minister Rajnath Singh, as the chief of the party’s campaign committee in the state.

The BJP is reluctant on not announcing the name of its CM candidate anytime soon but there are possibilities that the name for UP’s top post might be announced in the month of October.

If Maurya is projected as UP CM candidate than it could be a game changer for BJP in state. Maurya is close to RSS leaders and the VHP. He is also close to Dattatreya Hosabale and Krishna Gopal, both of them a senior leader of RSS. Both RSS leaders have a good understanding with Maurya.

Also Maurya is not a high-profile leader and can never create any problem to PM Modi and Shah. The decision of projecting Maurya as a CM candidate will help Modi and Shah keep absolute control on the state government if BJP wins assembly elections.
