Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh died on Thursday at AIIMS in the national capital. Dr Singh was born in a Sikh family on September 26, 1932 in Pakistan’s Gah. He served the country while holding key positions in the government. 

Dr. Singh was considered one of the greatest economists in the country. He was an erudite individual with knowledge of many subjects beyond Economics. He was conferred honorary doctorates in various fields, including Law, Civil Law, and Social Sciences, among others.

Dr. Singh was a bright student from his school days, despite lacking basic amenities like electricity and a nearby school. He had to walk miles to attend school. There was an interesting fact about Dr. Manmohan Singh. He was not able to read Hindi, but when he was given a topic in Urdu, he practiced extensively before reading it in public.

During his conversation with BBC correspondent Mark Tully, Dr. Singh revealed that he was the only Sikh student at Oxford. While taking a bath, Dr. Singh felt shy around his batchmates because of his long hair.

He mentioned that he would take a bath after all the other students had finished, and he had to shower with cold water because all the hot water had been used up.
