Kolkata, July 18: A 40-year-old woman accompanied by her sisters allegedly cut off the ears of the woman’s 20-year-old husband at gunpoint in Narkeldanga yesterday. The victim, identified as Tanveer was rushed to the hospital after his family learnt about the incident. Tanveer’s family on Tuesday night accused the cops of not filing an FIR against the accused. However, the police claimed that the culprits have escaped. According to a report, Mumtaz, the key accused and her sisters thought that Tanveer would die after the incident. Though, Tanveer managed to escape somehow. Tanveer was apparently duped by his friends into marrying Mumtaz, who is half his age. They got married two years ago. Reports suggest that Tanveer was regularly tortured by Mumtaz. In one such incident, Tanveer ran away to Mullickpur but “was brought back and brutally beaten by Mumtaz and her sisters,” Zee News reported. “She cut my ears and if I tried to resist they would have killed me,” the news channel quoted Tanveer as telling. He claimed that he was later held captive at Mumtaz’s residence.

Tanveer’s mother also gave Mumtaz huge amounts of money to let her son go. However, Mumtaz allegedly took the money but did not stop torturing Tanveer. The matter is being further investigated.
