Around 158 passengers of Jet Airways 9W-2314 Mumbai-Ahmedabad are stranded at Mumbai Airport, a news agency ANI reported on Sunday. The passengers waiting at the airport informed that onboard staff has told them that Ahmedabad Airport is closed. However, a Jet Airways airport official told ANI that aircraft is facing a technical fault. More details are awaited in the matter. Meanwhile, pre-monsoon rains along with stormy winds lashed several parts of Mumbai on Saturday evening. The first pre-monsoon showers claimed three lives as two children and another person died due to electrocution. Flights were delayed and their traffic snarls in most parts of the city.
Several domestic, international and cargo flights were disrupted and some were even delayed. Flight operations almost came to a halt at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. flights of Jet Airways, GoAir, Qatar Airways and various airlines were diverted. A Jet Airways flight was even delayed for 45 minutes following traffic congestion which took place due to the sudden showers. Another Sri Lankan Airways’ Colombo-Mumbai flight was diverted to Ahmedabad. As per sources, the runway had to be briefly shut down too.
Mumbai will continue to witness rains in the coming days and the intensity of the showers will only increase. Monsoon may start as soon as on June 8, according to weather officials. It must be noted that the movement of the Southwest Monsoon along the western coast is likely to increase the intensity of the rains.
