Kolkata: In the latest development in the Kolkata rape and murder case, in which a 31-year-old trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out gangrape angle as the available evidence indicates Sanjay Roy- the prime accused in the case – was involved in the horrific crime, NDTV reported citing sources. Sources told NDTV that the investigation is in its “final stage,” and the central probe agency will soon file charges. Notably, the case, which prompted nationwide protests seeking justice for the victim, was handed over to the CBI by the Kolkata High Court. Notably, the central probe agency is getting pressure from a Chief Minister, who is facing backlash from political rivals specially BJP and civil society activists over the gruesome crime. Last week CM Banerjee demanded an update in the case.

“I asked for five days’ (for the police to probe before she called in the federal agency) but the case was sent to CBI. They don’t want justice. They want delay. It has been 16 days, where is justice?” CM Mamata Banerjee asked.

State Minister Bratya Basu also demanded a report in the gruesome case in which the trainee doctor was raped and murdered.
“Twenty-three days have passed (since the case was transferred)… there is no progress report from CBI. We demand a detailed report of the investigation. When Kolkata Police was investigating regular updates were given through press conferences,” he said.

Victim’s Mother Wrote Emotional Letter

the mother of the victim wrote in a heartfelt letter on Teachers’ Day and said, “Because she got good teachers like you, she was able to become a doctor… However, her dreams were brutally strangled.”

In an open letter, she thanked all the teachers for helping her daughter become a doctor. “I salute all her teachers on behalf of my daughter. She had a dream of becoming a doctor since childhood. You were the driving force behind that dream,” she said.

“My daughter used to say, ‘I don’t need money. I just want lots of degrees next to my name. And may I heal as many patients as possible’,” she wrote.
