Bengaluru, May 15: The fate of candidates, who had contested for Karnataka Assembly Elections, will be known today, Tuesday, with the counting of votes underway. The Karnataka state is very important for Congress. The Congress is aiming at retaining the only large state it rules after Punjab, while the BJP is striving to form its government in Karnataka. The voting for Krishnaraja, Chamaraja, Narasimharaja, Varuna, T.Narasipur (SC) was held on May 12. (Click here for live updates on Karnataka Elections 2018)
In Krishnaraja, BJP has fielded S A Ramadas, the Congress party has fielded M K Somashekar. Mallesh K V is contesting from JD(S). In Chamaraja, BJP has contested L. Nagendra and Congress has contested Vasu and K.S Rangappa is from JD(S). Narasimharaja is currently held by Congress’s Tanveer Sait. S.Satheesh (Sandesh Swamy) is from BJP, Tanveer Sait of the Indian National Congress (INC), and Abdul Azeez(Abdulla) of Janata Dal (Secular) has contested.
In Varuna, Congress has fielded Yathindra S from the seat and T Basavaraju from the BJP and Abhishek S Manegar for JD(S). T.Narasipur is reserved for scheduled caste category candidates. the Congress has fielded Dr. H.C.Mahadevappa against S. Shankar of BJP. Ashvin Kumar. M is from representing JD(S).
In total, there are more than 2654 candidates, including 219 women, in the fray for 224 seats in Karnataka. As per the data released by Chief Electoral Office in Karnataka, the BJP have contested in all 224 seats, while the Congress has contested 222 seats. The HD Devegowda-led Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) has contested on 201 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by Mayawati, which came into an alliance with the JD(S), has a contest on 20 seats.
