New Delhi: Air India has introduced new flights to Prayagraj, formerly known as Allahabad, in the wake of Kumbh Mela 2019. The operation of these flights – from Delhi, Ahmedabad and Kolkata – will remain into effect between January 13 to March 30.
“Air India is pleased to announce new flights to Allahabad (Prayagraj) from Delhi, Ahmedabad and Kolkata to facilitate the movement of passengers during the Kumbh Mela 2019. Flights will be operated from 13 January to 30 March,” a statement by the airline read, as quoted by news agency ANI.
Air India said the new flight on Delhi-Allahabad route will operate on five days of the week–Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The flight on Ahmedabad-Allahabad route will operate on Wednesday and Saturday.
The flight on Kolkata-Allahabad route will operate on three days of the week–Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, the airline said.
Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya met former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and invited him to Kumbh Mela 2019 that is scheduled to be held from January 15 in Prayagraj.
Meanwhile, UP Dy CM Dinesh Sharma on Thursday sent out an ‘open invitation’ to Congress president Rahul Gandhi to visit Kumbh Mela 2019. “I urge Rahul Gandhi to visit Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela and also perform puja at his grandfather’s grave. His (Feroze Gandhi’s) grave is in Prayagraj and Rahul ji must visit it since he has never been there, and light a candle there,” he had said.
The Kumbh Mela 2019, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, would be held at Triveni Sangam. It will take place in Allahabad from January 15 to March 4.
