New Delhi, April 26: The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered the immediate suspension of Kushinagar and Dudhi Basic Education Officer and Block Education Officers. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also ordered for the suspension of Road Transport Officer and Passenger Tax Officer and for the filing of an FIR against the principal of Divine Public School, said news agency ANI. The order comes in the wake of the school van-train collision on an unmanned signal earlier on Thursday that killed 13 children and injured eight. Talking to ANI, Gorakhpur division Commissioner Anil Kumar said, “We were given orders to conduct a preliminary inquiry. People from Education Department, Transport Department, Principal of the school and the other concerned people were called for interrogation. We’ve submitted a detailed report.”

Earlier in the day, when Yogi arrived at the accident site, agitated protestors raised slogans against the railway and district authorities. Yogi got on the megaphone and said, “Naarebaazi band karo…nautanki band karo…I have come here to express my condolence (Stop sloganeering and your drama as I have come to offer my sympathy).”  The protesters didn’t seem convinced and many of them squatted on the railway track. They wanted that some railway personnel be immediately deployed on the unmanned signal so as to prevent such accidents from recurring. Meanwhile, Yogi had said it seemed to be the driver’s fault as he had his earphones on that there were questions being raised about his age (that he was a minor).

News agency PTI reports that members of the Kushinagar Bar Council complained to Yogi about the “irresponsible” behaviour of the staff at the district hospital. “As soon as they saw 13 bodies, senior officials of the district hospital referred four injured children and the driver to BRD Hospital without even administering first aid,” a member of the Bar Council told Yogi.
