Landslide on Mumbai-Pune Expressway; none injured

Landslides during monsoon has been a common event on the Expressway creating heavy traffic.

Mumbai, August 7: Yet another landslide hit Mumbai-Pune Expressway on August 6 disrupting the flow of traffic in the area. A part of land and rocks has blocked one side of the road near the Adoshi tunnel near Lonavla. Reportedly, no one has been injured. Landslides during monsoon has been a common event on the Expressway creating heavy traffic. After number of landslides, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will be increasing the length of Adoshi tunnel by 100  metres. In a meeting held by MSRDC they also said that the length of Lonavala Expressway will also be increased by 300 metres.

According to an Hindustan Times Report, Anil Diggikar, MSRDC managing director said, “These artificial tunnels at Adhoshi and Khandala will be 100m and 340m long respectively. The tunnels will be built of prefabricated steel frames that can withstand the impact of boulders as heavy as 100 tonnes.” There has been two landslides in the last month causing diversion of traffic.
