Latur, April 17: The Latur district in Maharashtra has been facing the worst ever water crisis and among the state government officials here have vowed not to learn from the past insensitivity shown by them earlier. Maharashtra state minister Pankaja Munde finds photo opportunity in drought-hit Latur district when she visited there to take monitor the situation.
On Friday, Devendra Fadnavis government wasted 10,000 litres of water to built a helipad in Latur, where chopper of Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse landed.
On Sunday, Rural Development and Water Conservation Minister, Pankaja Munde visited the drought-hit area of Latur and showed utter insensitivity by clicking selfies with the farmers rather addressing their plight. Munde’s selfies with hapless farmers have gone viral on social media platform for which the minister is also trolled by the users. Even after she was trolled, the minister didn’t stopped and kept updating her twitter with photos and selfies, as if she was visiting a tourist destination and not drought-affected place.
The crisis of Latur is so huge that veteran actor Nana Patekar on Friday broke down during an interview with a news channel. Actor Akshay Kumar has donated Rs 80 lakh to help the victims affected by worst natural calamity in Maharashtra. Also actor Aamir Khan has been working tirelessly in the area with his team satyamev Jayate to solve the water crisis by teaching them to preserve water.
A second special train carrying around five lakh litres of water had been organised by the Fadnavis government that first reached Latur on Monday. The ‘water train’ with 10 wagons were filled with drinking water at Miraj station and covered the distance of around 350 km.
In Latur the district administration had identified a huge well located near Latur railway station where the water is first stored and then supplied to locals.
