Union Minister and Senior BJP leader Giriraj Singh Thursday slammed Mamata Banerjee for her “burn” remark, likening her to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un who, he said, cannot tolerate any opposition akin to the West Bengal Chief Minister.
Attacking Banerjee over her recent remarks which have stirred a political firestorm, Giriraj claimed that the chief minister had an undemocratic mindset as “this can’t be the language of a democratic person”.
“This can’t be the language of a democratic person, of a Chief Minister. North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un doesn’t tolerate his Opposition. Similarly, Mamata Banerjee doesn’t tolerate the words of her Opposition,” the BJP leader said.
Mamata Banerjee, who is under fire over the law and order situation in Bengal which has shot into the limelight following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital, recently stirred a controversy wit her remarks, wherein she warned that others states too “shall burn” if Bengal does.
“If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn!,” she had said, while accusing opposition parties, especially the BJP, of stirring unrest in West Bengal in the name of seeking justice for the RG Kar incident victim.
Addressing a public function in Kolkata on Wednesday in response to BJP’s 12-hour long ‘Bengal Bandh’ call, Mamata Banerjee had claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using his party to cause a fire in Bengal over the RG Kar rape and murder case and warned that “If you burn Bengal, other states including Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi too shall burn and your chair will be toppled.”
“Some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh; they speak like us and share our culture. But remember, Bangladesh is a separate country, and India is a separate country. Modi Babu is using his party to cause fire here. If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair,” she said.
However, the saffron party has lambasted her comments, accusing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo of “insulting” protesting doctors and other civilians for demanding justice in brutal rape and murder case of the trainee doctor.
“She (Banerjee) is insulting protestors and doctors when she says demanding justice is like causing unrest. Only criminals are safe in West Bengal, not citizens,” said BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala.
Poonawala also slammed INDIA bloc leaders Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav for not condemning the Bengal CM’s remarks.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also castigated his West Bengal counterpart for her remarks.
“Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t show us red eyes. Don’t even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language,” Sarma said in a post on X.
