New Delhi, June 29: After the notification of the Government of India, the linking of Aadhaar card with Permanent Account Number (PAN) by June 30 was made mandatory, people are still confused as to whether the linking is mandatory or not. As per existing rules of the Section 139 AA of the Income Tax Act passed by Parliament, it was made compulsory for Indian citizens to link Aadhaar with PAN. The move was initiated to eradicate the loophole of ownership of the multiple PAN cards to flout the tax filing. However, the Supreme Court provided some relief to the citizens if they have PAN numbers but do not own Aadhaar or applied for it. Thus, the readers are advised to link their Aadhaar card with PAN.
