Mumbai, Mar 15: Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, Chhagan Bhujbal has been arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) on late Monday night in connection with Maharashtra Sadan scam. Chhagan Bhujbal will be produced before Special PMLA Court in Mumbai Sessions Court on Tuesday. Bhujbal was arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The NCP alleged vendetta politics by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the arrest of Chhagan Bhujbal. On the other hand, BJP leader Kirtit Somaiya hailed Bhujbal’s arrest. The ED probe follows a Bombay High Court ruling in January when it sought progress reports from the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau and the ED within four weeks on their investigations against the Bhujbals. Following Somaiya’s complaints, the ED had lodged two first information reports against the Bhujbals and others under the PMLA to probe the Maharashtra Sadan scam in New Delhi and the Kalina land grabbing scam in Mumbai.

The Maharashtra ACB had last month filed a chargesheet in the Mumbai Sessions Court against Chhagan Bhujbal and his family members in connection with the Maharashtra Sadan construction scam. Chhagan is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate ( ED) in several cases of money laundering.
