New Delhi, Oct 31: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today led the Congress march from Party Headquarters to Indira Gandhi memorial at Safdarjung Road bungalow in New Delhi to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The party also intends to start its campaign for 2017 elections in Uttar Pradesh with a massive public rally on November 19, the day that marks the 99th birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.
As per reports, the march on November 19 will be attended by all the Congress Working Committee (CWC) members and All India Congress Committee General Secretaries, will include Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. Indira Gandhi was born on 19 November 1917 and left for her heavenly abode on 31 October 1984. She was the central figure of the Indian National Congress party, and the only female Prime Minister of India till date. Gandhi served as Prime Minister from 1966 to 1977 and then again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984, making her the second-longest-serving Prime Minister after her father.
As per reports, bird flu crisis in New Delhi have affected the top leaders of the Congress. Reports state that earlier, the party had chosen Shakti Sthal to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31 but the death of two birds on Tuesday has led to a change. “The venue for the commemoration event has been changed from Shakti Sthal to the office of Delhi Congress Pradesh Committee on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg near Minto Road,” said Delhi Congress spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee on Friday.
