New Delhi: On a two-day visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, among other development projects, launched ‘One Nation One Card’ in Ahmedabad. This one card would allow its holder to pay for travel on any mode of transportation, said reports. (Also read: PM Modi to Visit Rahul’s Constituency)
A leading daily, quoting Central government officials, said that a new feature in all credit and debit cards issued by banks will enable people to use them either in PoS machines at ticket counters or like Metro Rail smart cards to enter a platform.
“All new credit and debit cards issued by most banks have the National Common Mobility Card feature to make payments for their travel. This is like any other wallet,” an official told the daily.
Delhi Metro has already begun a pilot run of automatic fare collection counters (AFCs) that can read these cards for entry and exit at stations. All new Metro rail networks would get these AFCs while the existing networks will replace the operational ones. Officials also said that India was one of the few countries with indigenous technology for AFCs and the mass rollout would reduce their prices significantly.
Till now, India has been dependent on foreign technology players who charged high royalty, making these products expensive.
The PM would also launch the Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PM-SYM) and inaugurate the first phase of 6-km-long Ahmedabad Metro service.
Sources told PTI that the Prime Minister would also lay the foundation stone for Umiya Dham temple complex during his visit. PM Modi would visit Annapurna Dham Trust in Adalaj in Gandhinagar on Tuesday for the ground-breaking ceremony of a Shikshan Bhavan and a Vidhyarthi Bhavan, they added.
He would start his two-day visit from Jamnagar in Saurashtra region where he would dedicate to the nation a 750-bed annexe of the Guru Gobind Singh Hospital and inaugurate its PG hostel, they said.
PM Modi will also launch SAUNI water schemes projects including Und-1 to Ranjit Sagar Lift Irrigation Scheme and Machu-1 to Nyari Lift Irrigation Scheme.
