Lok Sabha adjourned following constant disruption; Sumitra Mahajan disappointed with Congress

With only three days remaining before the Monsoon Session comes to an end, Congress is directing its efforts to ensure the government fails to clear the pending legislation

New Delhi, August 11: Lok Sabha was adjourned shortly after the proceedings recommenced at 4 PM. Congress along with few members of the opposition created constant uproar in the house, demanding adjournment of all business transactions until the government does not initiate discussion on the controversies surrounding External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Chief Ministers Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan was reportedly disappointed with the conduct of Congress lawmakers along with a few members of opposition. As soon as the proceedings began, members of Congress, Rashrtiya Janata Dal and Janata Dal United jumped into the well of the house demanding resignation of the tainted leaders within BJP. Amidst vociferous sloganeering by Congress MPs, the house operated without being adjourned in the first half of the day. Despite Opposition leaders were raising placards in the well of the house, Mahajan refused to call off the proceedings. However, since the ruckus created in the post-lunch session was uncontrollable, the Speaker was forced to adjourn. “I am very upset today. This is not democracy. Few 40-50 MPs are trying to disrupt the proceedings,” she said.
