New Delhi: A day after promising minimum income guarantee for every poor in the country, Congress president Rahul Gandhi asserted that the Women’s Bill would be passed on a priority if his party voted to power in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. “The first thing we will do when we win the 2019 election is to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament,” he said, while addressing a rally in Kochi.
Notably the women’s quota bill seeking to reserve 33 per cent of seats in Parliament and legislature has been pending ever since it was passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2010. Rahul made the promise while responding to a suggestion from a party worker that there was need for more women candidates. “We want to see women in position of leadership,” he added.
Speaking at the rally, the Congress president also drew parallel between BJP and the CPI-M and alleged both parties are two sides of same coin. “Both these parties created an orgy of violence. No jobs have been created for the youths here. Just like Modi, they ignored the farmers. Here also the same thing has happened and as a result Kerala has gone back,” said Gandhi.
Furthermore he alleged that PM Modi had destroyed not just several institutions but also even the judiciary and had come up with a fundamentally flawed GST. “Four Supreme Court judges went to the media to say they are unable to work. The CBI chief was reinstated by the apex court but within hours Modi transferred him out. We assure the people that we will restructure the GST which will remove all the flaws,” said Rahul.
