New Delhi: Kanhaiya Kumar, Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union’s (JNUSU) former president, will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2019 from Begusarai constituency in Bihar. He will contest the general elections as a common nominee of Mahagathbandhan, claimed sources.
If reports are to be believed, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav have agreed to Kanhaiya Kumar contesting from Begusarai seat. The Congress leadership too has given its support to the decision.
Sources close to Lalu Prasad’s family have been quoted as saying that Kanhaiya will be contesting the LS polls 2019 as official nominee of the CPM but, would be declared as the common candidate of Grand Allianace, which consists of RJD, Congress, CPM, NCP, HAM(S), Loktantrik Janata Dal and all left parties.
As per a report, CPM leader Satya Narayan Singh has confirmed the news. He has asserted that Kanhaiya Kumar has given his consent to the party that he will contest from Begusarai seat.
It is believed that if Kanhaiya enters the fray from Begusarai, then it would be a neck-and-neck fight as the BJP has won the last two elections from the seat by a small margin.
Earlier a report, quoting Left parties, had stated that Kanhaiya has already started preparations for the elections and has toured various areas of the region.
Kanhaiya Kumar belongs to Bihat village in Barauni town, Begusarai. He shot to fame during the 2016 agitation in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
