New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Monday coined a new version of OROP as he launched a scathing attack on Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Himachal Pradesh’s Una.

“For over 70 years, no one cared about soldiers. When the BJP government was formed, within a year Modiji delivered on his promise of One Rank One Pension. Modi ji gave OROP to our jawans, Congress gave ‘Only Rahul Only Priyanka’,” Shah said, while addressing the third ‘Panna Pramukh Sammelan’, organised ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Notably, OROP implies that uniform pension be paid to the Armed Forces personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service, regardless of their date of retirement, with an aim to bridge the gap between the rate of pension of current and past pensioners at periodic intervals.

Meanwhile, Shah also slammed Rahul over the JNU row and claimed that the Congress president has supported the anti-national movement backed by some student’s union. (ALSO READ: Congress Lays Hopes on Priyanka Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia For Revival in Uttar Pradesh; Rahul Gandhi Says ‘Won’t Play on Backfoot’)

“Rahul Gandhi JNU mein desh drohi naare lagane walo ki peeth thap thapane jaate hai. Rahul baba mere neta ko jitni gaali deni hai dedo, lekin kaan khol ke sun lo, agar Bharat maa ke tukde karne ki baat ki to sarkar kisi ko nahi bakshegi, iski jagah salankho k pichhe hai.”

Shah’s attack on Congress came days after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was appointed the Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East  by All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi.

Earlier the BJP termed had Priyanka’s entry into active politics as an admission by the Congress that its president Rahul Gandhi has “failed” in providing leadership and said he has opted for family “crutches” after facing rejection from other opposition parties.

“The Congress has basically publicly announced that Rahul Gandhi has failed and needs crutches from within the family. Because of his rejection by grand alliance parties, he has opted for a family alliance”, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra had said.
