Lucknow: Posters projecting former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav as the next Prime Minister of the country were spotted in Lucknow on Friday. Posters of ‘We trust in Akhilesh- The country needs a new PM’ were seen at several places in the city.

The posters were seen near the Samajwadi Party (SP) state headquarters as well as in front of Akhilesh Yadav’s under-construction house. The hoardings also bear a small image of former SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on the top.

Reportedly, similar posters projecting Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati as the next Prime Minister had come up during her birthday celebration on January 15.

Earlier, when Akhilesh was asked whether he will support Mayawati for Prime Minister’s post, the SP chief had said, “You know who is my choice. Uttar Pradesh has given Prime Ministers in the past and trend will be repeated again.”

Akhilesh had reiterated the same during Mamata Banerjee’s United India rally and said, “The nation is waiting for a new prime minister and a message of change would go out loud and clear from the mega opposition rally of Mamata ‘didi’ (sister).”

Both the SP and BSP announced the seat-sharing deal in Uttar Pradesh on January 12 during a joint press conference in Lucknow. BSP chief Mayawati had said that the alliance will herald a new revolution. She had termed the press conference ‘historic’ and claimed that the same will give sleepless nights to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Akhilesh had also lambasted the BJP and said that the SP-BSP ‘alliance was necessary to defeat the arrogance of BJP’. He had said, “The BJP can go to any extent to create differences in our workers, we must be united and counter any such tactic.”
