New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was appointed the Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East while Jyotiraditya Scindia has been made party’s General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh West by All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday. He termed the two powerful leaders and claimed that the party wants young leaders to change UP politics. The news comes a few days ahead of the announcement of dates for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 by the Election Commission of India. Making the announcement, the Congress informed that Priyanka will be taking charge of her responsibility with effect from February first week. She was also congratulated by her husband, Robert Vadra, in a Facebook post. If reports are to be believed, she will contest the upcoming general elections from Rae Bareli constituency. Speaking to the media over the development, senior Congress leader Motilal Vohra, said, “The responsibility given to Priyanka ji is very important. “This will help in revival of Congress not only in Uttar Pradesh but the entire country. She will take charge after February 1 once she returns from abroad,” Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said.
Reacting to the development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra, as quoted by Zee News, said, “This is not a challenge for BJP. This was expected. It’s family dynasty and reflects that Rahul Gandhi has failed. And in future, Robert Vadra too will enter politics. Only a Gandhi can become president of the party.”
Besides, Priyanka and Jyotiraditya’s appointment, the party also replaced Ashok Gehlot as AICC general secretary Organisation with KC Venugopal. Meanwhile, Ghulam Nabi Azam has been appointed as AICC General Secretary for Haryana.
