New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will reportedly give a miss to grand opposition rally in Kolkata organised by West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday, January 19. The grand old party will be represented by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge. It was reported that the West Bengal Congress wanted Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi to stay away from the rally and instead send a party leader, as Banerjee, who was invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh last month, had skipped the event and sent party MP Dinesh Trivedi instead. Meanwhile, a host of prominent Opposition leaders have been invited for the rally, touted as a show of opposition unity ahead the Lok Sabha elections.

Among those to be present at the rally include Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Tejashwi Yadav, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal and Janata Dal-S leader and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda.
