03.25 PM: Sushma Swaraj said Congress was divided on action against Lalit Modi.
03.25 PM: No appeal case was filed against Modi as the Enforcement Directorate did not take any action in the case for four years. She said Modi even got residency because of Congress.
03.20 PM: Sushma Swaraj denied Congress claim that Chidambaram wrote letters to MEA. In fact, she said, Chidambaram wrote directly to the British Foreign Minister and kept the Ministry in the dark.
03.16 PM: Sushma Swaraj puts Congress in the dock quoting from Arjun Singh’s book on how Union Carbide chairman Warren Anderson was allowed to flee from India. She blames Rajiv Gandhi for allowing this to counter Rahul Gandhi charge that no one was aware of permission to Lalit Modi.
03.13 PM: Sushma Swaraj accuses Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram of conflict of interest. She said Chidambaram’s wife was appointed to represent Income Tax department while he was heading the department. She was also engaged as a lawyer in the Sharda scam.
03.06 PM: Sushma denied the Congress charge that her family got benefits from Lalit Modi. She said her husband did not represent Modi in the visa case. She also denied that her daughter got any payment from Modi.
03.02 PM: Opposition objects to Sushma Swaraj intervening in the debate. They raise slogans and also demand that Prime Minister be present in the House. Amidst the ruckus Sushma Swaraj replies to the charges.
01.45 PM: Lok Sabha adjourned till 2.45 PM as ruling and Opposition members resort to sloganeering. Sonia Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia rush to the well of the House demanding apology for a comment from the ruling benches. Repeated pleas of the Speaker are ignored.
01.40 PM: Kharge quotes from the affidavit submitted by Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje. He also alleged that Modi invested in a firm owned by Raje’s son Dushyant Singh. BJP member Kirit Somaiya raised a point of order and said Kharge cannot level allegation against a person not present in the House.
01.35 PM: Ruling and Opposition members involved in heated arguments over Kharge taking name of a person who is not member of the House. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan expunges the remark and asks Kharge to not name people who are not member of the House.

New Delhi, Aug. 12: Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan accepted the adjournment motion moved by the Congress leader Malikharjun Kharge to discuss the alleged involvement of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Lalit Modi’s travel controversy.
Earlier, Sushma Swaraj, who has been under centre of storm urged the Speaker to accept the adjournment motion moved by the Congress party. Congress had been demanding discussion over the Lalitgate since the monsoon session began. Making an earnest appeal, Swaraj said the adjournment motion should be “accepted as it is”. Let only the Opposition participate in the debate and no one from the government would be part of it, she said.
“My only request is that the Opposition should be present in the House when I give the reply,” Swaraj said. However, Kharge insisted that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be present during the debate and should reply.
The Parliament has remained deadlocked since the beginning of the Monsoon Session last month.
