New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a bill seeking to provide 10 per cent reservation in jobs and education for the general category poor, with most parties backing the measure, described by the government as “historic” and in the country’s interest. The Bill seeks to amend Article 15 of the Constitution, by adding a clause which allows states to make “special provision for the advancement of any economically weaker sections of citizens”. Also Read - Breaking News Feb 25 News And Updates: Earthquake of 3.6 Magnitude Hits Kamrup in Assam

These “special provisions” would relate to “their admission to educational institutions, including private educational institutions, whether aided or unaided by the state, other than the minority educational institutions”.
