CJI BR Gavai: The Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, honoured the constitution of India and said, “We are proud of our constitution. Look at what is happening in our neighbouring countries. We have seen what happened in Nepal.”
He made this remark in the hearing of a Presidential reference in the Supreme Court amid the ongoing protests in Nepal.
The country of Nepal is witnessing nationwide protests by Gen-Z persons. It all started due to the government’s ban on social media platforms.
The CJI hailed Indian constitution by pointing out at the protests undergoing in Nepal. He gave this remark during the hearing of a Presidential reference in the top court. The statement of BR Gavai was endorsed by Vikram Nath, mentioning the previous protests and tensions in Bangladesh.
Nepal is witnessing serious protests that started on Monday. It started due to the government’s imposed ban on 26 social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Quora, and Messenger.
The Gen-Z-led crowd began protesting for the same and the infuriation led to the death of 19 people. The ban on the applications was soon lifted but the agitators demanded better handling of corruption in the country.
As a result, the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign. Furthermore, a parliamentary building was burned down along with the residence of the PM.
The videos surfacing on social media about Nepal’s present state are quite disturbing. Allegedly, more than 6000 people have escaped from the prisons in 18 districts. In light of this, the security personnel have requested the general public to cooperate.
