Lord Shiva’s 112 feet statue in Coimbatore enters Guinness Book of World Records

Isha Foundation plans to set up three more statues of similar height across the country. Isha Foundation has marked its entry in Guinness record for the second time.

Chennai, May 14: Lord Shiva’s 112 feet tall statue was on Saturday declared world’s largest bust by the Guinness Book of World Records. It is located in the outskirts of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu at the Isha Yoga Foundation. Guinness made the announcement about the ‘Adiyogi’- Lord Shiva’s statue on its website.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 112 feet statue at the Isha Foundation located on the outskirts of Coimbatore in February this year. This statue fascinates and attracts thousands of people every day.  The face of the statue is set up by Isha Foundation which is led by spiritual guru Jaggi Vasudev.

The statue is 112.4 feet high, in width it is 24.99 metres wide and 147 feet long, as verified on March 11, 2017. The bust refers to source of Yoga and symbolises the 112 methods of self-transformation that the first Yogi or Adiyogi (originator of yoga) offered, a press release said.

Isha Foundation plans to set up three more statues of similar height across the country.  Isha Foundation has marked its entry in Guinness record for the second time. The first one was in October 2006, the name was penned in Guinness for planting  8.52 lakh saplings.

As per Economic Times, during the unveiling of the statue, many political parties urged PM Modi to not to attend as it violates the laws of the environment.

Earlier, a PIL was filed in Madras High Court challenging its construction as it claimed that Noyyal river is being obstructed.
