New Delhi, June 8: In yet another ‘love-jihad’ case, an 18-year-old girl, who hails from Chandigarh has alleged that she was raped by a boy from Srinagar, forcibly converted to Islam and then gangraped by his family members as well. The girl has alleged that the Chandigarh police did not investigate the case fairly, after which she knocked the door of High Court, seeking directions for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) . On May 1, the victim’s plea came up for hearing in High Court before Justice Anita Chaudhary. She reportedly asked her counsel, to place on record the proof of her age by July 18 (the next hearing of the case). In her petition, the girl has alleged that the accused boy contacted her in January 2016 via Facebook, posing as a Hindu boy. They both became friends and in November 2016, they met at a hotel in Chandigarh. As per a report published in Times of India, the boy tried to start a relationship with her but she refused. He returned to Srinagar, and at that time she came to know that the guy concealed his real identity. But she agreed to continue the relationship and stayed in touch over phone. In April 2017, the duo again met at a hotel in Chandigarh and the boy then forced her into physical relationship and took objectionable photographs of her. He then asked her to change her religion and convert to Islam in exchange of her objectionable picture. The girl was left shattered, listening to his necessary condition.
The girl further alleged that the accused took her to in mosque in Burail village of Chandigarh where she was converted into Islam. The victim claimed that last year in May and June, she went to Srinagar twice to get back her objectionable pictures but on both visits, she was ill-treated by his family members including boy’s mother. She also alleged that five member’s of the boy’s family gang-raped her and his mother forcefully aborted her child.
To prove her allegations, the victim also submitted a screenshot of the Facebook page of the accused, copies of the Nikahnama, travelling documents to Srinagar, name of all persons who allegedly raped her in Srinagar and phone numbers through which the boy’s family members contacted her.
On July 18, 2017, the Chandigarh police registered a case of rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. “However the police concluded in the charge sheet that it was a simple case of consensual relationship,” the girl alleged.
