Polling for Ludhiana MC election was held on February 24. Over 50 per cent polling was recorded. Repolling was held in some wards on Monday after incidents of violence were reported on February 24. A total number of 494 candidates contested election for 95 wards of Ludhiana municipal corporation.

900 policemen have been deployed to keep a tight vigil around the counting centres.

The Opposition parties have claimed that the ruling Congress indulged in “booth capturing” and “bogus voting”. A SAD-BJP delegation on Monday met Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore and urged him to direct the state government to scrap the Ludhiana municipal corporation poll process and hold elections afresh.

Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is the current Mayor of Ludhiana. These elections come two months after polls were held for Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar Municipal Corporations. The Congress won all three civic bodies in the polls that were held in December 2017. After Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar, all eyes are now on Ludhiana Civic Polls.
