Ludhiana, Feb 19: Lok Insaf Party member and MLA Simarjit Singh Bains has alleged that Congress leaders attacked him while he was campaigning for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Elections 2018. Bains also alleged that they tried to kill him. He said that about 500 people came with guns and other weapons and tried to attack him. “500 logon ne pistols wagarah lekar unhone humpe kaatilana humla kiya. Hum Punjab & Haryana court mein bhi petition daalenge taaki free & fair election ho sake (500 people carrying pistols etc tried to attack us. We will file a petition in Punjab and Haryana High Court for free and fair elections),” Bains said. “Congress leaders Kamaljit Singh Karwal, Gurpreet Gopi were involved in the attack,” he added. The LIP has released a list of 55 candidates for the Ludhiana Municipal Elections. Voting for the Ludhiana MC Polls will be held on February 24 while counting of votes will take place on February 27. Also Read - Rajasthan Congress MLA Gajendra Singh Shaktawat Dies at 48
Around 10.50 lakh voters are eligible cast their votes in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Elections. Among these voters, 5.67 lakh are males, 4.82 lakh are females, while 23 belong to the third gender. Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has 95 wards and 50 per cent seats are reserved for women candidates.
