Kolkata, Dec 13: West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, who was yesterday arrested in connection with Saradha chit-fund scam, has beenremanded to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody till December 16. Taking strong exception to Mitra’s arrest in the Saradha scam, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had termed it illegal and unconstitutional.

“I dare the Prime Minister and the BJP leadership to arrest me,” she said while alleging vindictive politics by the Centre. Mitra’s arrest has come as a major setback for the West Bengal Government as the CBI had earlier last month arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Srinjoy Bose in connection with the scam. Thousands ofTrinamool Congress (TMC) workers on Saturday staged protest here outside the Alipore Court against arrest of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra’s by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam .

Angry protestors were seen holding placards expressing their displeasure over the CBI’s decision. In a setback to the West Bengal Government, the CBI had on yesterday arrested Mitra in connection with the Saradha scam. The CBI had earlier this week summoned him for questioning. TMC Member of Parliament Srinjoy Bose was earlier last month arrested by the CBI in connection with the scam.
