Ujjain, Aug 21: In a record of sorts, a 14-year-old boy has been sent to a reform home for two years by a juvenile board here within five days of raping a four-year-old girl, said media reports on Tuesday. Juvenile Justice Board Judge Tripti Pande pronounced the sentence on Monday after wrapping up the trial in seven hours, said the government advocate. The boy allegedly raped the girl on August 15 and “the case diary was submitted in the court at 10.45 AM on Monday and the judgement, after trial, was pronounced around 6 PM,” Deependra Malu said. “This is probably for the first time, after the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act came into effect in 2012, that a judgement in a rape case of a minor has been given in such a short duration,” he told PTI. While pronouncing the sentence, the judge said, “The tendency of sexual offences against children is rising at a fast pace in society. To correct such a perverted psychological condition, this boy needs to be sent to two years’ imprisonment.” The court ordered for the boy to be sent to a remand home in MP’s Seoni district.
On August 15, the girl was playing with other children at the residence of the accused at Ghatiya village in the district where he raped her. The child later shared her ordeal with her parents who filed a complaint at the Ghatiya police station. Ujjain SP Sachin Atulkar formed a team to probe the case and the boy was nabbed from his relative’s place in Rajasthan and brought back to Ujjain. The sentence was awarded under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act, he said.
Elsewhere in the state, a 23-year-old woman was dragged by her hair and then killed for not dropping a sexual harassment case. The woman was on her way to college in Seoni, around 370 km from Bhopal, when she was dragged by her hair by the accused, Anil Mishra. He smashed her head with a stone. The man allegedly wanted her to drop a sexual harassment complaint against him but the woman had refused to do so. Speaking to PTI, police officer Arvind Jain said, “Mishra was waiting on his bike. On spotting her, he dragged her to the roadside, pushed her to the ground and smashed her head with a big stone lying nearby. The woman, who was seriously injured and bleeding badly, died while being taken to the hospital.”
