New Delhi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested two people including a Mexican national and seized over 9 kg of synthetic opioid, fentanyl, from their possession. The illegal chemical was being manufactured in the illegal laboratory in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh.
The seizure was made during a week-long joint operation with a team of scientists from Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDO).
According to Times of India report, the laboratory was being run by a local businessman and a PhD scholar chemist.
The report also stated that the drug Fentanyl, which spreads quickly, is so dangerous that a mere two milligrams of it are sufficient to kill a person. The seizure has made scientists confused because only trained scientists can manufacture this drug. The value of these drugs is over Rs 100 crore in the international market.
Fentanyl hydrochloride is the salt form of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid with pain-relieving and anaesthetic properties. It is classified as a drug under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
