Shahdol: Disappointed over not being selected to contest in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election 2018, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Jaisingh Nagar, Pramila Singh joined the Congress party on Friday. Singh alleged that the party talks about women empowerment but didn’t field her even though she served the people for five years.
“The government talks about empowering women, but they haven’t given a ticket to a woman who served people and the Bharatiya Janata Party for five years. I’ve joined Congress now. I don’t want to do politics but work for welfare of people,” Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The Bharatiya Janata Party had on Wednesday (November 15) expelled 53 candidates in Madhya Pradesh for refusing to withdraw their nominations before the deadline was over. The move came after the BJP tried to convince the dissenting leaders by pressing in its firefighters like Prabhat Jha, Narendra Singh Tomar, state president Rakesh Singh and state in-charge Vinay Sahastrabuddhe.
The single-phase election for the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly will take place on November 28, 2018, the result of which will be announced on December 11, 2018.
