New Delhi: Referring to ongoing CBI infighting, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday reiterated his ‘Chowkidaar’ barb against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claimed that Alok Verma, the probe agency director was removed at 2 AM as he was going to start inquiry in Rafale deal.

“CBI Director was going to start inquiry in Rafale deal. ‘Doodh ka doodh, paani ka paani ho jaata’ but ‘chowkidar’ removed CBI director at 2 AM because he fears that the day inquiry starts, nation will get to know that ‘chowkidar chor hai’,” said the Congress chief, while addressing a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain.

Intensifying his attack, Gandhi further said,”Someone told me that corruption took place in Kumbh Mela there should be a CBI inquiry. How will CBI conduct inquiry when CBI director was removed at 2 am in the night.”

He also assured people that after coming to power in the state, the chief minister of the Congress party will waive off the loans of farmers. “I don’t make fake promises. Within 10 days of the elections, Chief Minister of Congress party will waive off the loans of farmers in Madhya Pradesh. And if the CM will make excuses, another Chief Minister of Congress will waive the loans,” Rahul promised.

Notably, the Congress president began his two-day tour of politically significant Malwa-Nimar region in the poll-bound Madhya Pradesh by offering prayers at the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, devoted to Lord Shiva. Clad in a ‘dhoti’, he performed ‘puja’ at the ancient temple, which is one of the 12 ‘Jyotirlingas’ (special shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva) in the country. It was Gandhi’s second visit to the shrine. He had last visited the temple in 2010.
