Madhya Pradesh: Girl born with heart outside her chest, admitted in AIIMS hospital Delhi

Mumbai, April 10: A  girl born with a rare medical condition in Khajuraho town of Madhya Pradesh is battling for her life. In medical term, she is suffering from a rare congenital condition called Ectopia Cordis which means her heart is beating outside the body. According to the medical experts, this rare condition occurs in 8 children per 10 lakh births.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Chhatarpur district hospitals civil surgeon Dr R S Tripathi said that, “The girl was born on April 5 at Khajuraho Health Centre in the district. She has a rare congenital medical condition called Ectopia Cordis (heart abnormally located either outside of the thorax).”

Arvind Patel, the girl’s father works as a security guard at a world heritage site in Khajuraho. After the girl was born in an abnormal condition, the Khajuraho Health Centre referred him to take her to Chhatarpur district hospital but didn’t give any letter in writing. After getting transferred to Chhatarapur hospital, the hospital referred the newborn baby to be shifted to Gwalior. The Gwalior doctor further referred her to AIIMS.

The doctors later informed the father that the medical expense for the treatment of the girl would be around Rs 25 to 30 lakhs. Since the father belongs to a poor family, he was unable to afford the expense. In such situation, Patel went to meet Chhatarapur collector Ramesh Bhandari to help him for her daughter. The Chhatarpur collector assured the father to provide every help possible.
