Bhopal: A priest was suspended on Thursday after videos of him allegedly molesting a minor girl goes viral on social media. The action against the temple priest was taken by the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee in Ujjain. As per the videos, the priest was seen allegedly molesting a minor girl inside the Mahakaleshwar temple.
The temple committee further moved an application urging the police to carry out an investigation. The video reportedly showed the priest sitting at the temple doorstep with materials necessary for pooja inside the temple’s main complex. Though the committee members did not have the videos, they sought an urgent investigation in the case after numerous devotees lashed out with complaints.
A report by Times of India quoted temple administrator Abhishek Dubey as saying, “Through an administrative order, using powers bestowed on the committee under Madhya Pradesh Shri Mahakaleshwar Mandir Adhiniyam, priest Hemant Dubey was suspended after we received reports about him molesting a minor in temple premises. His entry to the temple has also been suspended.” Meanwhile, Mahakal police station in-charge Rakesh Modi reportedly stated that ‘appropriate action’ will be taken in the case.
Dubey did not accept the allegations levelled against him by the temple committee. According to sources, Dubey was already an accused in a murder case. He was one of the student’s who had allegedly killed Professor HS Sabharwal of Madhav College on August 26, 2006. However, the court later acquitted him in the case.
Professor Sabharwal, who was supervising the student polls at Madhav College following charges of irregularities, died after complaining of uneasiness. He was mobbed and pushed by unruly students before his death. Protesting the alleged involvement of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members in the manhandling of Sabharwal, the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, had then called for a bandh in Ujjain.
