Bhopal, Jan 20: Counting of votes for Madhya Pradesh Municipal and Panchayat Elections and Bypolls 2018 will take place today. Results will start coming in from 8 am when counting begins. The local body elections in Madhya Pradesh are being said to be a semi-final for the Assembly Elections in the state. Voting for the MP Civic Body and Panchayat Elections was held on January 17. While a voter turnout of 69.08 per cent was recorded in the Municipal bodies elections, the Panchayat elections recorded 59.59 per cent voting.
The main contenders in the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Council and Panchayat Elections 2018 are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. In Barwani district, Sendhwa and Barwani municipal council and Pansemal, Khetia, Palsud, Anjad and Rajpur Nagar Parishad went to polls. While Omkareshwar Nagar Parishad in Khandwa district went to vote, Vijaypur-Raghogarh municipal council in Guna district went to polls. In Anuppur district, polling was held for Jaithari Nagar Parishad.
Bypolls were held for Semaria town council in Rewa district and some wards in municipal councils of Singrauli and Sarni in Betul, Mandla, Sidhi, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Jhabua and Dhamoh, two wards in Satna and three wards of Balaghat. Polls were also held in town councils of Akoda in Bhind, Karnawad in Dewas district and Khilchipur in Rajgarh.
Besides municipal bodies, a total of 51 Panchayats also went to polls in the state.
