Bhopal, Jan 20: The results of panchayat elections 2018 in Madhya Pradesh will be declared today. Counting of votes for Madhya Pradesh Panchayat elections and by-elections results will begin at 8 am. As many as 51 Panchayats spread over 30 districts of Madhya Pradesh went to polls on January 18. Elections were scheduled to be held in 51 Panchayats to elect 7,030 Panchs and 163 Sarpanchs. Of these 7,030, bye-election was held to elect 5432 Panchs and 73 Sarpanchs. Bypoll was also conducted to elect 17 Janpad Panchayat Members and 3 Zilla Panchayat members. 51 Panchayats of these 30 districts went to polls: Alirajpur, Ashok Nagar, Khandwa, Khargone, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Tikamgarh, Damoh, Dewas, Dhar, Betul, Burhanpur, Balaghat, Bhind, Dindori, Mandla, Ratlam, Rajgarh, Raise, Rewa, Vidisha, Sheopur, Shahdol, Shivpuri, Satna, Singrauli, Seoni, Sidhi, Harda and Hoshangabad. These elections are being seen as the most crucial local body polls for Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government ahead of the November assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. Besides, the outcome will also send a political message before the Kolaras and Mungaoli assembly bypolls. The main contenders are the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.
