Mumbai, March 22: Maharashtra Advocate General Shreehari Aney submitted his resignation to Governor following row over remarks on separate Marathwada state. His resignation comes after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asked the state advocate Shreehari Aney to put down his papers. Shiv Sena had protested in the forefront and threatened stall the state assembly functions till Aney quit. Although Aney put forward his resignation, Shiv Sena protested asking Aney to apologize and also demanded that a case be registered against him.
The assembly on Monday witnesses protests with MLAs shouting slogans against Aney. Aney was also called as “Owaisi in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik said that Aney’s statements has amounted to an insult to martyrs who sacrificed their lives for a united Maharashtra. At an event on Sunday, Aney had said, “Marathwada bore more injustice than Vidarbha and should therefore be independent. Pressure has to be put at the Delhi level to form a separate state as the demand does not come under the purview of Mumbai.”
He also encouraged the peopke of Marathwada to start a movement against the formation of a separate state. Aney had triggered similar protest after he demanded support for a separate state for Vidarbha. The opposition and Shiv Sena moved separate motions in the assembly on Monday seeking Aney’s removal. Shiv Sena also refused to participate in cabinet meetings until Aney was sacked.
