Beed (Maharashtra), June 25: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, known for making controversial statements, invoked the Hapur lynching to incite Muslims in a rally here. Addressing the public, he said that for the sake of secularism, Muslims should unite and vote for their own candidates. Clearly asking the people to cast their vote on communal lines, he said, “Don’t sit here shedding tears for Qasim, I don’t ask that of you. Instead, get up and unite. I want to awaken your conscience. Those of who talk about secularism are the biggest robbers. For 70 years, Muslims have been used and abused in the name of secularism…to keep secularism alive, you need to fight for your rights. For that to happen, you should be able to become a political force to reckon with.” (Also read: Assam Lynching: One More Arrested, Tally Rises to 31) Also Read - FIR Registered In Connection With Firing At Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad: UP Police

On Hapur lynching, he said: “They used abusive language…throwing expletives at him…and how many arrests were made? Only two.”  Pointing a finger at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Owaisi said that be it the Hapur lynching, or that of Tauheed Ansari, who was lynched on the suspicion of carrying cow meat in UP recently, or that of two brothers in Jharkhand, “it is happening under your rule…is this your idea of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas?” (Also read: Gau Rakshak Followed Victim For 15kms) Also Read - 'They Were Instigated': Police After Woman, Daughter Attempt Self-Immolation in Lucknow

In Hapur, Qasim and Shamiuddin were beaten up by a mob over rumours of their involvement in cow slaughter. A video of the incident also did rounds where both the victims can be seen lying in the pool of blood while a group of men shouts at them. The police arrived after the incident had taken place, and asked locals to take the victims to a nearby hospital. Due to unavailability of any vehicle, the locals resorted to dragging the victims. The photograph depicting the same went viral and the police had to apologise for the apathy conveyed through the photo.
