Mumbai, Dec 3: Amid unrest in Maharashtra over caste violence in Bhima-Koregaon, major airlines have announced a waiver in ticket cancellation charges. Private carriers Indigo Airlines, Vistara, and Jet Airways said they are waiving off charges on ticket cancellation. Indigo said that it will be providing change and cancellation fee waiver. It also issued a phone number for assistance.
“Due to protests in Mumbai, heavy traffic is expected en route the airport. Request you to please plan your travel in advance to avoid any hassles while boarding. We’ll be providing change and cancellation fee waiver for flights to & from Mumbai for today and tomorrow. For assistance, reach out to us on Twitter, Facebook, chat with us http://bit.ly/2dx6yks or call us at +91 9212783838,” it tweeted.
Jet Airways also made similar offer.
“Due to unrest in Maharashtra, we urge our guests to exercise caution while traveling to the airport. In case guests are unable to travel, we have waived off change and cancellation charges, including fare difference if any, on all confirmed tickets for flights to and from Mumbai, Pune & Aurangabad on 3rd January 2018. Pls reach out to our Contact Centre for needed assistance,” Jet Airways said.
“Due to the bandh in Maharashtra, we have extended our cancel/change fee waiver for all flights to/from Mumbai and Pune on 3rd and 4th Jan’18. Customers may contact our Airport Ticketing Offices or call us on +91 9289228888 or +91 9958962222 for assistance,” Vistara said.
There were reports of unrest in several areas of Mumbai. Local trains had to be cancelled after protesters created logjam on tracks. At least 50 trains were cancelled on the Western Line route in Mumbai on Wednesday. Metro between Ghatkopar and Airport road was also stopped. Students didn’t attend schools and colleges fearing unrest in the city.
