Mumbai, Feb 21: Voting for 10 Municipal Corporation, 25 Zilla Parishad and 118 Panchayat Samiti of the Maharashtra Civic polls ended at 5:30 pm. With this, the fate of 9208 candidates contesting in 1268 seats across ten municipal corporations has been locked in the ballot box. Considered as a four-cornered battle between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress, there are also other parties including Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Samajwadi Party are also expected to create an impact in the civic elections. According to Axis-My-India exit poll, there is a tough fight between Shiv Sena and BJP in the state. Considered as the traditional seat of BJP, Shiv Sena had been massively campaigning in Nagpur and trying to gain some foothold in Nagpur which is considered to be the den of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The India Today- Axis-My-India exit poll states that BJP will maintain its lead in the city and will be comfortable in forming the government in Nagpur Municipal Corporation. In Nagpur, BJP is predicted to win 98-110 seats followed by Congress winning 35-41 seats. Shiv Sena is predicted to win 2-4 seats in the city. In the 2012 civic polls, the ruling BJP-Sena government won 68 seats out of the 145 seats. Pune Municipal Corporation

In Pune Municipal Corporation, Axis-My-India exit poll has predicted that BJP will be gaining control in the city and according to Axis-My-India exit poll, BJP is predicted to be the top gainer with the party projected to win 77-85 seats. The Congress-NCP alliance is predicted to be at the second spot with the alliance winning 60-66 seats. Shiv Sena may win 10-13 seats in the corporation election and MNS may win 3-6 seats. In the 2012 civic polls, the ruling Congress-NCP government won 79 seats out of the 152 seats.

Thane Municipal Corporation

Thane Municipal Corporation has been traditionally governed by Shiv Sena. The India Today-Axis-My-India exit poll predicts Sena to continue its lead in the city with the party projected to lead the TMC elections with 62-70 seats. The Congress-NCP alliance is expected to be at the second spot with NCP projected to lead in 29-34 seats and Congress to lead in 2-6 seats. BJP is predicted to be at the third spot with the party projected to emerge victorious in 26-33 seats. In the 2012 civic polls, the ruling BJP-Sena government won 61 seats out of the 130 seats.

Sena and BJP broke the 25-year-old alliance and after the parties failed in forming a pre-poll alliance, a war of words broke out between both the parties. Results of all 10 Municipal Corporation and 25 Zilla Parishad will be declared on February 23.
