Mumbai, Feb 23: The results of the cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and 6 other civic bodies across Maharashtra will be declared today. Polling for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and 6 other civic bodies across Maharashtra was held on February 21. Millions of voters including Bollywood celebrities exercised their franchise in the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections. As many as 17,331 candidates are in fray for 3210 seats up for grabs in 10 municipal corporations.
The stakes are high for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray in the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections. The Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Election Results 2017 will also decide the political future of Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). The arrival of Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has made the electoral battle difficult for Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) that often enjoys large share of Muslim votes. For the BJP, the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation election results 2017 will be its midterm report card and test for the popularity of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state. The performance of the Shiv Sena will be keenly watch as the party broke its 25-year-old alliance with the BJP and decided to go solo in the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections. Much is at stake for Raj Thackeray whose MNS rules in Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). Whether MNS enjoys any space in the new political space will be known today.
Of the 10 civic bodies went to polls in Maharashtra this year, Shiv Sena is ruling in three, while Congress, BJP and NCP have their Mayors in two municipal corporations each. MNS is in power in one civic body. Shiv Sena is ruling BMC, TMC and Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation. Congress is ruling party in Amravati and Solapur civic bodies. The BJP hold power in Nagpur and Akola, while MNS rules Nashik Municipal Corporation. The Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Election Results 2017 will be declared today.
